Analogy Avenue: Highway Patrol

Quick recap for those who are new to the series: This series is based on an analogy for life through the lens of driving, “life is a highway,” etc.

One minor detail about this analogy is the fact that there is no highway patrol. The reason people tend to go the same pace through life is because of fear, mainly the fear of discomfort. How I imagine speed in life is how quickly you are heading towards success. It’s more comfortable to kind of saunter towards success because you stay with the pack instead of leaving it in your dust. There’s no “success police,” there is only you and the speedometer. We tend to go the same speed because we’re afraid to step on toes or speed past someone else and piss them off. We would rather go at a “normal” pace and have good company.

I urge you to hit the rev limiter. Speed towards success. Surround yourself with others who are doing the same, because those are the people you want around you. The people who will motivate you to go faster, work harder, strive to be better. If you try to be successful but are surrounded by people who are happy to just dawdle down the highway of life, you won’t get anywhere fast (pun intended).

Find your crew, burn some rubber, and you’ll be head of the pack before you know it. That’s what I’m doing at Praxis, and I’m not checking the rear view mirror anytime soon.
