Day 29: The Resident Idiot
I started watching The Office again recently and, despite the absurdity of the show, it got me thinking. Almost every character in the show is an absolute idiot. Even the sane ones have crazy moments. And I realized that people do stupid things sometimes, not always to the same level as in the show but we all have a little resident idiot occupying our heads somewhere. I mean, I already knew that I just hadn't really thought about it before. In light of this realization, I thought about a solution for a bit. Basically, the conclusion I came to is that there is no way to completely banish this resident idiot from our minds. It's another aspect of being human. However, we can learn from our resident idiot's prior mistakes and the prior mistakes of other peoples resident idiots and make sure not to make the same mistakes over again. If we do that, at least we don't continue to make the same mistakes and we can work towards making fewer mistakes all around by narrowing down the number of mistakes possible.
I know that I have made a lot of mistakes in my past, and some of them I am still trying to fix, but I can tell you for sure I am not going to make the same ones again. The way I see it, the mistakes we've made make us who we are. Without them, we wouldn't be the same and personally, I think we would all be worse off for it. No mistakes equals no room for growth. And growth is one of the most satisfying things a person can do.
