Day 27: Easter
Easter. My family has an interesting relationship with this holiday. We haven't done the standard Easter egg hunt or the baskets for a long time. Instead, we like to emphasize the celebration of Passover. Personally, I like this change because there's more food :) but also it helps us all get away from the modern commercialization of Easter. It allows us to take an afternoon and explore everything that God has done for us, as well as the similarities between the reason for both holidays. Passover celebrates the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and Easter, in a way, represents the Exodus of all people from the bondage of slavery. Just like God brought the Israelites out of Egypt during Passover, when Jesus went to the grave and rose again three days later on Easter He was bringing the rest of us out of bondage as well. I think it's pretty interesting that they fall so closely together on the calendar. It's almost like a sign from God saying "Hey, I love you guys. I'm gonna make you see how much by making two holidays with the same message at the same time of the year." Don't worry God, I noticed.
