What I've Learned About Myself: The Praxis Experience

If you don’t know about Praxis by now from reading my blog, let me explain so that doesn’t confuse you any longer. Praxis is a 12 month long program, I like to call it a college alternative program to give a quick summary. It is divided into two parts, the first six months are composed of six modules that set you up for success in the field you want to pursue and the second six months you take on an apprenticeship at a company to get some real experience under your belt. Sometimes there is a little bit of space in between those parts while you are interviewing with different companies so you find the right fit.

I am just finishing up the interview portion and preparing to start at my apprenticeship next month, so that gives you an idea of where I am in the program. And one of the key things that I have learned while in Praxis is how important it is to get feedback and advice from others if you are unsure about a project or the results you are providing. Learning from others while teaching yourself is so important.

I’ve learned a lot about myself and things I need to work on as I move forward. I learned something else too. It’s difficult to get better at something you struggle with if you don’t know what you’re struggling with. You have to narrow down the things you are bad at, in order to focus on getting better at them.

I’m so excited to start my apprenticeship next month and really dive into learning on my feet! I’ve learned a lot over the past several months and I’m itching to put it into practice. I know I’ll succeed because I’ve got a great group of people backing me up, advisors and peers alike!
