Day 32: In His Image
I was listening to a sermon this morning, and I thought about something that I doubt was a point the pastor was trying to make, but I think it explains something very well that we as Christians (and humans) have a hard time wrapping our minds around. And that is the Godhead. How can God be three people and yet only one at the same time? Personally, I believe this concept IS outside of our ability to understand and that it is exactly what he says; one person who is also three. However, I figured out a way to explain it in a way that makes it somewhat more understandable. Strike that, I didn't figure it out on my own, it had to be divine inspiration. I was exhausted and my creative juices were definitely not flowing yet, so this was of no work of my own. Anyway, I will get right to it then.
The phrase that sparked this whole idea was simply "God created us in His image." That is all I had to work with (that's how I know it definitely wasn't my half-conscious butt). But when the pastor said that phrase, I got to thinking about what that meant in a way I hadn't considered before. Each of us is a single person, but we all play many roles. For example, I am a son, a student, a brother, a licensed driver, and eventually a husband and father (breathe mom). Even though all of those roles are extremely different, I am still only one person. SO instead of trying to wrap your mind around three people who are actually the same person, try to think of each of them as a role that God plays. Where I am Josh the son, He is God the Son. My dad is Paul the father, He is God the Father. God has the most important roles in the world, that's why they are all capitalized.
Now that I just blew your mind, you probably understand why I can't take the credit for any of that! Feel free to add anything you'd like in the comments section, this is an idea I would like to cultivate and fill out a little more to share in the future.
