Day 6: Conquering Resistance

Today I was reading a book called "The War of Art" as part of my program work for Praxis. I'll make another post with my final thoughts on it, but so far I'm really enjoying it!

It's about combatting resistance. And the first thing about combat is you need to know your enemy. The first part really breaks down what resistance is, and explains in close detail what characteristics it has. Resistance is internal, it's a part of you and feeds off your fear. It manifests itself in whatever form it needs to keep you from doing your work, whether that be thoughts in your head disheartening or discouraging you or even other people tearing you down because you're succeeding in defeating resistance and they aren't.

So far, it has been really inspiring but the last bit I read makes me wary to recommend it. In short, I think it's a very good book and will help anyone who reads it. However, the author is quite blunt about his beliefs and in the last part that I read he was on the verge of attacking mine. I'm going to finish the book anyway, but it's pretty clear he thinks that his beliefs directly contradict Christianity and therefore Christians are ignorant. I think that what he has to say about resistance can be applied in junction with Christian beliefs, but the way he describes it Satan is just the name given to "Resistance" by unintelligent people.

More to come towards the end of the month but I think it will still be a very wholesome read as long as I don't let myself get bogged down by the semantics.
