My Top 3 Skills

In this post I hope to give you an understanding of what I consider to be my top 3 skills. In alphabetical order of course :)

Adaptability

I have held three different positions up to this point. Each one of those positions I entered knowing close to nothing about how things worked in that role. The first was under my father working at his construction business. I was pretty young at the time, but after a short while I was trusted with pretty large responsibilities such as tearing up kitchen tile, nailing down plywood, and even cutting tile (which is pretty tough but fun too). The second was at Chick-fil-a, where I was employed for two years. After my first month there, my manager told me I had the most potential out of the current employees. The third position was a summer job, and by the end of the summer they didn't want to leave! All this to say that I have a lot of experience adapting to new environments and have become quite adept at harnessing this ability.

Communication

Whether it be verbal or written communication, I am quite effective at getting my point across. Throughout high school I took several creative writing courses, and I have taken a few public speaking courses as well. Outside education I learned how to effectively communicate during my time at Chick-fil-a, where quickly and effectively communicating is crucial to serving the guest in a way that reflects well on the company. I learned very early on that communication is the first thing that gives others an impression of both your intelligence, as well as your character. Once I learned that, it was a simple decision for me to make to improve my communication skills in order to make the best impression I possibly could. And I am glad I did, because I will be communicating for the rest of my life so that is definitely a useful skill :)

Curiosity

I love figuring things out and discovering new ways to do things. When I was younger, I would spend hours playing with Legos, creating space ships and fortresses and staging epic battles with nothing but plastic pieces and my own creativity. As I grew out of Legos, the same curiosity that fueled my passion for finding new ways to use those pieces was shifted towards technology. It's always exciting for me to find a new shortcut or command to use, or a setting that I can change to amplify my experience with a device. Recently I have enjoyed learning how to "tune" my computer by adjusting settings and using programs to allocate RAM and storage more efficiently. But even beyond computers, I love to discover new things about the world around me. My brother and I like to share fun facts and teach each other new things, probably due in part to our brotherly competitiveness, because it means we learned it first ;).

Moving Forward

I look forward to using these skills to quickly become a valuable part of my business partners company. I believe my adaptability and curiosity will allow me to learn about the business quickly, and that being able to communicate effectively will help me initially by being able to ask questions about things I don't understand, as well as down the road by being able to answer other peoples questions when they don't understand something. It will also help just by being able to get a point across without having to dance around and try to find the right words.
